Xiangtan: A Historical City in Southeastern China
Located in the province of Hunan, Xiangtan, China is a prefecture-level city, which is known as the birthplace of a handful of the Chinese Communist Party’s founding leaders, as long as a renowned Qing dynasty painter, and a tennis player. Its name came from the geography of the city, with “Xiang” depicting the Xiang River and “Tan” translating to “deep pool.” Settlements in the area were believed to date back to the 3rd millennium BC, before the Ming Dynasty.
Best Time to Visit
Xiangtan experiences a humid subtropical climate marked by long summer days and damp winter days. It is best to visit the city in the summer season, from June to August, as most of Xiangtan, China hotels are available and cheaper during these months. However, expect high temperatures with around six to seven days of rain per month. Those who plan on visiting the town in November might be able to witness the China (Xiangtan) Qi Baishi International Culture & Art Festival, although the event is not held every year.
What to Do & Area Attractions
When visiting Xiangtan, it is highly recommended to stop by the Biquan Lake and the Yandi Square. You can then enjoy the en-suite amenities offered at the three-star Xiangtan Chengyuan Hotel and four-star Huatian Hotel, which are roughly 20 to 22 miles away from the city center of Xiangtan. The former features an on-site coffee shop and business center, while the latter provides in-house breakfast options and concierge services.
