Kitale Airport – KTL
The Kitale Airport, or most locally known as Kambi Miwa Airstrip, is one of the five airports in Kenya. It is located in Kitale town, Trans-Nzoia County, in northwest Kenya near the border of Uganda and serves the town and the nearby places. The Kitale Airport, with an airport code of KTL is a civilian airport owned by Kenya Airports Authority. Three airlines that serve the airport include; Fly540, with seasonal flights to Lodwar and Nairobi-Jomo Kenyatta; Fly-SAX to Nairobi-Wilson; and Safarilink also to Nairobi-Wilson. As of this time the airport continue to operate as a commercial facility.
Best Time to Visit
KTL-Kitale Airport has a total area suitable for a small airport and an elevation of 6,070 feet above mean sea level. It has a runway with asphalt as its surface. The town, which the airport is serving, is one of Kenya’s most visited destinations. Kitale serves also as the main gateway to several mountains and beautiful spots such as Mt. Elgon. Mt. Elgon has intact calderas and believed to be one of the world’s oldest volcanoes. There is also the nearby Saiwa Swamp National Park, which is Kenya’s smallest national park. You can easily drive to the tourists' sites of Kitale from the airport.
